Summertime Science
Introduction: Ben Rockett
Submitted by Ben002 on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 3:10pm. Summertime Science
I would like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Ben Rockett. I am nineteen years old and currently a sophomore at the University of Missouri-Columbia, also known as MIZZOU. I am studying Biochemistry. This is a mixture of chemistry and biology, mostly focused on different components of living things in our environments. I am from a town called Cape Girardeau, located about two hours south of St. Louis. When I finish at MIZZOU in three years, I hope to attend medical school and become either a radiologist or an anesthesiologist.I am obsessed with science and the human body.
This is my first summer as a YES team member. I am very excited to meet with all of the incoming teens and to work alongside some other great mentors and educators. I am hoping to lend a great amount of knowledge as well as learn a lot this summer also.
That is all for now but I will try to blog at least once a week on how things are going in the program and what all I have learned and observed (sometimes including pictures).

Frogs , Kids , and Chinese !!!!
Submitted by CourtneyH001 on Wed, 07/14/2010 - 12:13pm. Summertime Science
This summer we`ve been mainly working with children and showing them all of the animals we have here in C3 ( Communitcating Climate Change ). Most of them really seem to like the frog ( we named her Kermita ! lol ). Its fun watching the kids touch and hold the frog and seeing their reactions whenever she hops around. Kermita is a White's Dumpy Tree Frog that is mainly found in Australia and New Guinea. Besides the frog , we have two salamanders ( Sully and Marca ) and a turtle ( Turshella ). We are also adding a snake to our family of animals , hopefully we're getting it this week! We also have visitors from Taiwan visiting our group. They are college students who are learning about how we teach the kids. They are sooooo sweet and they showed us how to write our names and say a few words and phrases in Chinese! =)
