Flight School
Over the course of this week(Mon-Thurs) a select group of Yes teen have been working at the Science Center on flight similators. FORTUNATELY I've been one of them. This week long flight program wich I attended was designed to show how one can basically learn to fly without actually stepping foot in a real aircraft. Today was our BiG Day. We, the yes teens, got an opportunity to fly a real airplane. With the assistance of a flight instructer, all of us successfully took off, flew to our destination, and landed. I feel very priveledged to have had an opportunity such as this one . . . .

Hey errbody this is Gregory from Learning Places here to tell you about the great things that some things that the YES Teens and I did at Flight School. The first couple of days at the James S. McDonell Planetarium, we practice flying on the flight simulators on how to take off with a plane and how to so turns, also how to land a plane. We learned about the functios inside the Bugeye cockpit. Today, we finally took flight. At first I was kinda scared because I never been inside a plane, but it was very cool to fly in. Next time I wanna do a loopty loop next year. Well so long for now. PEACE

All this week I have been learning on a similator, which was almost realistic and accurate as flying a actual plane. The simulator helped me feel comfortable and gave me enough understanding that I needed to fly a real plane. Today I actually took of into the air by my self, well there was a licenced pilot in the passanger seat next to me just in case. I flew around for about thirty minutes, the plane actually flew it self so i didn't have to do too much concentrating. As i was flying I looked around on the ground and everything looked sooo small. I was two thousand feet above the ground! Finally I reached another air port where i landed. My landing was really smooth. I only had one week of training but I give my self an A+ because i did "an excellent job" that's what the licenced pilot told me. Afterwards i took pictures in the plane and out side of the plane. I had fun and it was a great experience and i wouldn't mind doing it again.

My experience at flight school was very hard for me because I was really scared about being on a plane.I was really scared cause I've never been in the air before and Im a ground person. I told myself I would never be in a plane and nobody would get me to do it, but it looked like somebody got me in a plane. The day cam e for us to fly a plane and I was nervous.Whaen we got there they came in to talk to us about where we were going and that a professional pilot would be in there guiding us with directions, and when they said that I felt better. When we were ready to fly the plane and it was my turn I still nervous a little bit cause it was my first time in the air.The lift off came and it wasn't bad because I can see over everything and it was beautiful. We were heading towards Washington airport for a land and head back towrds Spirit. My time came to fly the plane I did not want to do it cause I didn't like the air.I took a deep breath and I was ready for take off.

This whole experience at Flight Schoool was rather awesome, but today was by far the coolest. In this past week everyone is Flight School has been opertaing a Flight Simulator that pretty much aided us throughout this entire week until today. This Flight Simulator had it's moments were it wasn't as intense as other things that I like doing but without it I'm sure that I wouldn't be capable to do what I did today. I was really nervous accounting on how I have never been in or plane an airplane before and flying one was a huge step. I thought I was going to freak out becuase I'm kinda afraid of height so I went second to make sure that I was going to being able to do it.

This week has been a very fun and exciting week. It started out kind of slow, but as the week progressed, it became fun-filled and engaging. This week, I participated in flight school and basically what we did all week was just simulate how to fly an airplane. It took a lot of practice and patience, but eventually, we all got to get up in a real plane and expierience first hand what is is like to be a pilot. I had a lot of fun and am maybe considering double majoring in meteorology with aviation. It taught me a lot about airplanes, how to fly them, and the many possibilities that await for people to discover about aviation.

Last year, before I started my first year of college, I was given the opportunity to learn to pilot a plane and actually gain flight-training hours in Flight School. Before we went out to the airport to fly we spent a couple days flying from the safety of the flight simulators at the planetarium. These simulators were useful in our training in that the conditions of our flights could be changed on a whim, if you wanted to fly at night, during the rain, or from any airport in the world, but also in that we could replicate our flight from the Spirit of St. Louis airport to the St. Charles airport where we would then stop in at the Creve Coeur airport before we even stepped inside a plane. This helped all us get use to the controls, equipment, and instruments.
