Last month's Famiy Science Night was rained out (April showers!); however, March's Family Science Night was a huge success, bringing YES teens and their families out for an evening filled with magical science fun!  We explored John Zuman's fanstastic curriculum, MAGIC!.  YES teens and families participated in a number of cool activities that explored the science behind those magic tricks we see in shows and on t.v.  We are taking a break during May, but expect the next Family Science Night in June!  Details are forthcoming!  Hope to see you there (weather permitting, of course!).

Family Science Night 5...a small success

Family Science Night

This past Tuesday was Family Science Night 5 (thanks to Meesa and Nao for participating).  We had ten participants, including Lauren's sister Gabby, and even Adam's dad (minus Adam) attend.  It was a small group, but we had a great time with the theme "The Science of Food."  Teams were asked to design sensory tests for "Oreo Senses," using the five senes to determine which Oreo was the "regular," and which was "lite."  Teams were creative as well as thorough with their sesory tests!  We continued the evening with a "Fizz-Off," where teams were asked to select a variety of ingredients in order to create their own soda.  Groups then participated in a taste-test and awarded Martha and Niki's soda, Fantasy, the winner (it really was pretty good!).  We discussed how chemists work closely with food manufacturers to create the products we eat.  Overall, we had a good time!
