Fungus Among Us
Submitted by Kerry on Tue, 02/21/2012 - 1:33pm. AgriscienceLast Saturday in Agriscience, we welcomed a new supervisor, Colin, along with two new teens, Authority and Mariah. Our focus was on funguses and how they can be both useful and detrimental. We dissected a mushroom and a stalk of celery to compare them. We also looked at moldy bread, discussed the Irish Potato Famine, and listed how funguses are different from plants. And, of course, the chickens made a visit.

Well, Today, we played around with vegetables and mushrooms. I had always wondered what the brown-ish fuzzy stuff on the underside was.... then I found out.... MUSHROOMS HAVE GILLS. YES GILLS. LIKE... LIKE FISH DO. The gills hold the tiny spores that make the mushrooms grow. We also go to eat a lot of crasins. :)))) Today was a good day. <3
