The Science After School program has been in conjunction with the Science Center’s YES teen program for nine years.  The YES teens bring inquiry-based science activities to local elementary schools and community organizations throughout the year.  This semester one component is working with Accion Social Communataria, a Community Partner, at their after school program. These teens are teaching a Biology based curriculum. The YES teens plan out their curriculum and are the sole facilitators once on site.  The YES teens teach and mentor children from first through eighth grade and their main goal is to make science fun for students who may not normally be drawn to the subject.  A second group was created this semester and they have decided to call themselves the Biodiversible Teens.  This component of Science After School has dedicated themselves to the investigation and mapping of safe green spaces in the community surrounding the Taylor Community Science and Resource Center.  Through these programs, the YES teens have helped fulfill the Science Center’s mission statement to ignite and sustain lifelong science and technology learning.
