My Experience At Y.E.S.

Summertime Science
This is my first year in the Y.E.S program and I am enjoying this experience. I have met new people, learned new things, and understand plant life bettter. The main three things that I really like about the Y.E.S program is it's teaching you better people skills, the program challenges you in differennt types of ways, and you're learning about multiple things at one time. You are learning better people skills because you're surrounded by different people that you don't know and as a YES Teen it is your job to work with them. The program also challenges you in different types of ways by getting you out of your comfort zone. If you're a shy person; you to be around strangers, if you're a quiet person; you have to speak, and if you're an outcast or like to keep to yourself; you have to work with your group members. Y.E.S is teaching you multiple thngs at one time about science, responsiblities, work ethics, and leadership skills. I believe these are important skills for teenagers to learn. Here at YES I was pulled out of my comfort zone and in the beginning I was sort of shy but because of my teammates and my supervisor I feel more comfortable and have grown as a person. I am no longer afraid to speak in front of a crowd or shy. I have become more outspoken and helpful to those around me. I like being apart of the YES Program and I am looking forward to being here each summer!!

Cayla I must say in the beginning you were always shy and not really talkative with the others around you. You have definitely changed-you're more helpful to your teammates, willing to take initiative to do things, and always staying positive. I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your first summer here at YES and that while here you have learned new things and built new friendships. The skills you have learned are extremely important in the work world and throughout life in general. I know that I have continued to push you in these weeks we have shared together and that it was difficult for you in the beginning but you have definitely gotten comfortable around everyone, willing to speak to visitors, help your teammates, build leadership skills, gain knowledge about science, and learned the important do's and don'ts in the work world. I am glad that you were put in my group and I know that one day you will appreciate me pushing you to speak out and take the lead. Continue to enjoy the rest of your summer. Cayla, keep your positive attitude and your voice!!!
