Kid in a Bubble!?

Science After School

Before spring break we continued our challenge with bubbles and tried to see if we could fit a "kid", or in this case a YES teen, inside a bubble. YES teens used their inquiry skills and discovered that some techniques worked better than others. See below for a photo blog of the action.

First, we added dish soap to water. What do you suppose is the best ratio of soap to water?

Then, we tried making a contiguous bubble without anyone inside. It took lots of practice. Do you think it worked better to bring the hula hoop up fast or slowly?

We tried it with two people on each side, with one person lifting by themselves, and with people of various heights inside. What do you suppose was the winning combination?

It took a lot of patience! (And good timing for our photographers!) Click here for all the photos and more information about our activity, Cauldron Bubbles. You'll see notes attached to the photos that explain the procedure and asks you questions to help guide you to try it at home. Good luck and come back to comment on how it worked for you.
