When it all falls down...

Technology
What is the difference between something that lasts forever, and something that only lasts for a few minutes?  Aside from the measure of time, I also believe that the strength of material its made of is a major factor in the success of it.  I had an opportunity to create a vitrine that had to be strong enough to stand on its on, protect its content, be portable and also presentable.  I think the principles of building is the same no matter what the subject matter is.  Whether you are building a home, presentation, or a relationship- you'll only get out of it what you put in.  Taking my experience with the vitrine for example, I started by looking at what I had to work with, recognizing my goal, and making a plan to get it done.  Since I knew the product needed security, I only picked out the materials that would successfully support it.  So many times in life we choose things that are insufficient to hold our potential, and even though we may be partial to that particular thing, it ends up hurting us more that actually helping.  And because we refuse to let go, we continue to allow those things to pollute our enviornment.  So I started with the foundation.  It needed something sturdy, and reliable in the event of it being moved so as not to disrupt its original placement.  Sometimes life changes direction and takes us somewhere we never thought we'd be nor planned to really go.  In that aspect a firm foundation is absolutly essential- you know where you came from, and in the event that your walls come tumbling down along with all the other things you depended on, your foundation will still remain in tact.  That gives you the advantage of not having to completely start over.  Never underestimate your foundation because it sets your standard which determines your success.  After finishing that, i used some nearby materials as a covering vor my product.  In comparison, the covering is to the product as boundaries relate to people.  Not everybody is meant for  everything.

this morning...

Technology Specialists

Umm...I really don't have that much to say.  I'm excited about being a technology specialist this semester.  I did kinda miss the yes program a little this summer.  I had another job though, at the social security office that created an equal learning opportunity for me.  I got experience doing multiple office tasks, sometimes more than one at a time, making projects and presentations to be presented to the public and other affiliations.   I made copies, filed papers, dealt with the public, answered telephones, and a whole lot of other stuff too.  I also enjoyed other perks of working for the federal government, meeting new people and seeing new things.  I also learned a lot too.  experience truly is the best teacher, and I am very grateful that I got that opportunity.  But as I return, I look forward to all the things I get to do here at the science center that I wouldn’t have the chance to do elsewhere, with all the hands on activities and public interactions.  Going away for a while does make you appreciate being home and all that has to offer.

Teaching at Ames

Saint Louis Public Schools

Teaching at Ames for me has been okay.  I enjoy being around the kids most of the time, and I appreciate the experience.  Even though my job is to basically teach the children, I  think it is also important to learn from the experiences around you. I learn a lot from the students like things such as patience, and it reminds me of life back when I was in the 5th grade and struggled w/ long division. I think by starting high school and getting wrapped up in my own life, being with those kids reminded me of where I'd come from.  Sometimes in life i forget to smell the roses, and i focus way too much on what i dont have, and who i cant be, that i forget to live the life ive been given as a gift. Children are the future, and your future is a result of the past.  Making mistakes are all part of life, but what makes one bigger than the other is not the consequences, but whats learned.  i constantly make mistakes everyday, and i know that is something we can all relate to but thinknig about it and pouting about it wont change the enevitable, but only prolongs the possible.  i heard that if you never fall then you wont know or apprecicate what feels like to be standing.  So that is what i realized when i get up @ 6 in the morning to come to work and face another day teaching. I believe that teaching is juxtapose to laerning.  Everyday wont be easy, and sometimes we cant remeber where we last placed our fake smiles and polite cnversations, but each day is 24hrs with 60min with 60sec being what you make it.  Everyday is loaded with choices and challenges and i take it as it comes-(why am i ly'n cause i know i over think everything) Well at least i try to anyway.  Most people say life is what you make it and i used to agree, but now im thinking that life is what you make out of what you are given, because sometimes we are thrusted into siuations that we have no control over, but as long as you can take a breathe and stand again, you are priverlaged to make it.  childhood is important because what you do then, or what happens to you effects what you'll be as an adult, so I say be all you can cause its a choice
