Glad to be back in Neuroscience!

Neuroscience

I am so glad to be back in the program. I wasn't able to pick a component due to my absence, so I decided to come back to the Neuroscience group. I did take it during the summer, but i had to leave about half way through. So there is still room for me to learn much more. Today, YES Program Supervisor, Colin came in and did a chemistry activity with the group. It was solely based on the activity of fruit flies under a distinctive chemical that might put them to sleep. The main source was called, Fly Nap, and we used other well known chemicals that made it up to determine which caused the flies to go out of consciousness. Different groups had different chemicals to speed up the process, and determine which chemicals it was. As a result, the Diethyl Ether was the chemical that put the flies to "sleep". It took about 40 seconds for the flies to react to the Ether, while the Fly Nap took about 3 minutes. All the flies in the enclosed containers with the Ether, and Fly Nap dropped out of consciousness, and it would take a while for them to come back, but they were not harmed. I had a blast with the activity today, and I look forward to many more. Thank you, Colin! I learn a lot. :)

C3 Frog Presentation Preparation

YES

As I walked into the classrrom I noticed the enlargement of my frog. It grew trimendously! How exciting!! But now in C3 we are working on our presentations to hang around the room for the summer progroam. Just for the entertainment and attention of the children we are creating a "Where am I?" activity. The activity will consist of varous pasters hanging around the rrom and the children will have to identify the animla based on the facts given. I can already tell this is going to be a lot of fun! I can't wait...

My Summer with Learning Places

Learning Places
My summer with Learning Places was a Blast! My supervisors were Messa, Bill and Tim. They taught me a lot and helped me increase on my intelligence. We have done a lot and been through a lot (as usual). I really enjoyed myself this summer with you all and I will love to show up next year(if able). -Paul Calloway

Reflection On Our Trip to Adams

Learning Places
At Adams Today we taught a group of 8 year olds about optics. The activty was fun but my child did not enjoy it. It seemed like everytime I tried to get her to do something in order to get ingaged into the activity she would turn away and talk to someone else I was getting a little mad but I did'nt take it out on her, because it was'nt her fault. So I hpoe I can do better in controling my child and her likes and dis-likes better next time.

My Experience in Learning Places

Learning Places
I am so excited to be part of this program! I am already beginning to like it here. The part I like the most in Learning places is when we had a chance to create a new experience for the younger children to do. My idea was to do a sugar lab where you test to see if white sugar or brown sugar can melt an ice cube the fastest. I am looking forward into teaching some of these kids my experiment.
