what was done in learning places

Learning Places
i am matthew of learning places. today we worked on making plants to see if it would make a good activity for the kids we will teach over the summer. i think it was fun activity that would work great with the kids. it did not take to long and really helped people understand the purpose of plant adaptations. this was fun and challenging. we then went on to a group challenge. the challenge was to have every one in our group stand on a board. this easy for our group of three. my supervisors then gave us a harder challenge by making the board a smaller piece of paper. we did this challenge with a little more effort. then we were challenged to stand on a normal piece of paper this was difficult until we decided to hold up our third person completing the challenge after a few attempts. the purpose of these challenges was to show how we should challenge the kids we will be teaching.

Matt's new species, a highly invasive plant  Hi Matt,

Your plant has many interesting aspects, it is very inventive in shape and method of collecting nutrients in the center of the plant...I can't remember is the nutrient collector a modified leaf or flower, I know your plant reproduces vegetatively through the long vines.  I find the literally spongy leaves very amusing too.

How do your roots absorb nutrients?  They are harder than any roots I have observed, how do they work?

Hey Matt,

Welcome back! I'm glad you enjoyed the activity. Your invasive plant idea was very creative, and I think the kids this summer will appreciate your guidance during this activity.

Matt,

Glad to see you back to the lab.  It sounds like you picked right back up on the curriculum ideas we have been exploring.  I'm glad to hear that you think the children will enjoy these botany activities.
