Presentations

Learning Places
Almost every saturday, after we are done with our various activities for the day, each group gives a 2-min presentation. During this presentation, we are basically supposed on sum up what we did in our community site groups. Today Felix informed me that, for the remainder of the fall sessions, these presentations will be recorded. I think thats a good idea. Hopefully, we will be able set aside some time each saturday to view and critic our presentations. This activity could better our speaking/presentation skills and make us aware of the distracting movements and bad habits etc we have when speaking in front of groups. Mayyyybe . . .this "presentation review time" could take the place of bloging . . . .lol

 . . . . . .until next time . . . . .

Hi Colin,

I think that critiquing your presentations is a great idea.  Meesa, Felix and I are talking about ways that we can work in the critiques....I think this self reflection skill could help you give better pitches to the community partners and improve your public speaking skills for the future.  I was really impressed by how comfortable all of you were in front of the camera already.  I think with reflection and concious attention to improving speaking style all of you will end up with very strong skills in this arena.

Considering that more than half of the general population has a severe fear of public speaking this kind of comfort infront of an audience can be a very useful and marketable skill!

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the great post. I'm glad to hear that our activities actually mean something to your growth and development. I think videotaping is an excellent way for you to see your own habits and mistakes. And, no you can't do it in place of blogging. I like reading what you guys have to write, and it's a way to show everyone else what you guys are doing.

Colin,

I'm glad you are interested in learning and improving your presentation skills!  You also used the experimental learning cycle to debrief the activity!  You gave a reflection, interpreted the information, and best of all, you planned on how to apply this information.  We will definitely look into setting up a time to review the tapes.

Hi Colin,
I'm glad to know you will videotaping the presentations.  Since I can't be there every Saturday, it will help me know what is going on.  I love Cindy's idea of YouTube or posting them here because that makes it easy for me and the teens in St. Paul and others to see how the Learning Places are coming along.

I agree with Cindy too that I hope you will still blog often.  I enjoy reading everyone's blogs even though I don't comment very often.
Keep up the good work!

That would make me sad. Your blogs are how the whole world stays up to date on what you are doing!!!!!

Maybe you guys could upload the presentations on YouTube, and put the videos in your blogs????
