Learning Places
today wz cool.We focused on botany. We spent most of this saturday classifying parts of plants. Once we were familiar with the plant parts, we split into groups and did an activity where we paired up and drew someones plant based on a description they wrote using the the terms we learned. At the end on the lab, we did a listening. It went well

Paintin' witha guys

YES
Last wednsday Desmond, Arial, and I-with the supervision of Felix- started painting our future "activity room" at Hebert Hoover on Grand. When I arrived, I saw desmond and Arial diligently working while felix was busy taking more pictures than a french tourist . . .lolidk . . .A few minutes later, as I took off my jacket and crcp uniform shirt, we all got down to business. The colors we decide to use were green, blue, and yellow. Painting is More exhasting than i thought!------after all that hard work, it was only right that we grab a bite to eat. Felix agreed. So after some concentrated brainstorming(kudos to the YES programlol), we decided to go to Imos. On the ride there, we discussed everything from high school prom to college life to Asian culture . . . it wz cool. Our Interesting conversation lasted all the way through our meal. . . .After we finished eating, Arial, Desmond and i hopped in felix's PuttPutt and headed home.-----------Overall that day went pretty good. . . .YES Teens ARE the Best!! . . .lol-------------gotta get to wrk now--ttyl dudes

WWwwhaaaaaooo booooy!! . . idk

Learning Places

Today we DidN't have a usual saturday session. From the outside looking in one would suspect that we(learning places as a whole) didnt make that much progress-----but in actuality we did.

Right arounnd about 12 o'clock the learning lab got a little out of control. Mesa, the HEad SUpervisor(haha felixlol), took it upon herself to confront us learning places teens of our unproffesional behavior. to make a long story short---------we ended up having an interesting discussion where we brainstormed, reflected, dicussed etc ways to better conduct our LP work. This discussion was beneficial. Both the supervisors and teens appropriately expressed thier greivances but also admitted to their mistakes.---------------the end

Learning Places
Alicia and I, the community liasons, gave our "2min" presentation last today. When I was sitting down listening to my Learning Places team members present, I noticed how much progress we have made. As a collective Learning places group we have compiled lots of info and brainstormed many idea's for the class room set-up of our community cites.

Presentations

Learning Places
Almost every saturday, after we are done with our various activities for the day, each group gives a 2-min presentation. During this presentation, we are basically supposed on sum up what we did in our community site groups. Today Felix informed me that, for the remainder of the fall sessions, these presentations will be recorded. I think thats a good idea. Hopefully, we will be able set aside some time each saturday to view and critic our presentations. This activity could better our speaking/presentation skills and make us aware of the distracting movements and bad habits etc we have when speaking in front of groups. Mayyyybe . . .this "presentation review time" could take the place of bloging . . . .lol

 . . . . . .until next time . . . . .

Today's ice breaker

Learning Places

Today's icebreaker was supposed to enhance our teamwork, cooperation, will to compromise etc . . . Our supervisors gave us small cards with sign-language hand signals and brail. They also gave us a sentence ,written in brail, that we had to translate into written language. Honestly, I dont think this was the best icebreaker in the world lol. We didnt have enough info to work with.

Learning Places

      Hey everyone!! . . . .

Today, during our learning lab sesssion, we split into groups and did several activities. The most memorable was an activity similiar to that of the "childs game" telephone. Everyone in the group, accept for the storyteller and the lister, left the room. While the other group members were outside a rather lenghthy lol story was told. Once the story was completely told, the listener then had to tell the same story to another group member. By the time all the group members told the story, many important details were left out/twisted around etc . . This activity was supposed to show us(yes teens) the importance of active listening and note taking. It ddid just that. I liked it . . . . . :^)
