SORTING SEEDS!!!

YES

THIS WAS GREAT FOR THE KIDS BECAUSE IT WAS HANDS ON. ALSO, THERE WERE SO MANY DIFFERENT GROUPS THE KIDS COULD PUT THE ITEMS INTO THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW AT FIRST. THE KIDS UNDERSTOOD IT AND CAUGHT ON WELL. IT WAS A GREAT EXPERINCE FOR ME BECAUSE I LIKE TO SEE THE KIDS LEARNING AND HAVING FUN AT THE SAME TIME!!! IT LET US TO KNOW THAT WE DID OUR JOB AN TAUGHT THEM SOMETHING.

Almost Done.!

Learning Places

Last week at work we had the privilege of having guest speakers come in and talk to us. The guest speakers were form the Navy!  They Navy officers talked to all of us about the navy and what they do there. They explained how they rank the officers, what jobs they have done, and options for college while your training to be in the navy. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot of information about the navy that I did not know about.  The navy officers were very nice and they were willing to answer any questions that we had.

After we were done talking to the people from the navy we separated into our groups and began to work on our learning places projects. Krystal and I are almost finished with ours. We're at Girls Inc. and we're working on colors and angles.  We made a big angle clock and we made activities for them to work on mixing color. All we have to do is finish up on our secondary colors. I hope they enjoy our learning place!

Today we talked about systems and what they had in common with each other. We dicussed different topics that we felt strongly about such as fighting in school. We also talked about the bad things that could have happened last week as we worked at the main building and the different people that we worked with.

Visible or Invisible...FATS!!!!!!

City Science
Tra and Briana  Today we did a lab experiment testing the lipids in sunflower seeds, chips, and chocolate chips. Lipids is basically another word for fats. In our experiment we extracted the fats out of each of the foods. The fat in the potaoe chip is mostly on the surface and the fat in the sunflower seed is the seed itself. Next week we're going to do the next experiment so we can figure out how much we fat we extracted from each food.

Summer 2007

Summer 2007
I really enjoyed working at the YES program. It was alot better than I had expected it to be, We worked with alot of different kids, teens, and supervisors. I had fun with them all. I would love to come back next summer. I have made lots of friends. I especially had fun teaching the little kids new science projects and watching them learn.
