Flight School

Flight School
Last year, before I started my first year of college, I was given the opportunity to learn to pilot a plane and actually gain flight-training hours in Flight School. Before we went out to the airport to fly we spent a couple days flying from the safety of the flight simulators at the planetarium. These simulators were useful in our training in that the conditions of our flights could be changed on a whim, if you wanted to fly at night, during the rain, or from any airport in the world, but also in that we could replicate our flight from the Spirit of St. Louis airport to the St. Charles airport where we would then stop in at the Creve Coeur airport before we even stepped inside a plane. This helped all us get use to the controls, equipment, and instruments. When the day came for us to actually take to the skies, we took a bus to the Spirit of St. Louis airport where we broke up into two groups. One group would fly first while the other group would take a tour of the airport and the air traffic control room. The group that would fly first would then break up into two even smaller groups made up of three people. These three person groups would be teamed up with a pilot and after deciding who would fly from the airport first take to the skies. Once we landed at St. Charles we would rotate and the next person who take off from there and fly us to Creve Coeur airport with minimal help from the pilot in the seat next to them. In conclusion, I enjoyed the flight school a lot because I know I wouldn’t have another opportunity in my lifetime to fly a plane without it.
