College Prep- A day to remember

YES
TOday dureing college prep we did a couple brain teasers which were quite insightful. THe experience that made a difference is the NOSA (National Optometry Student Association). They came and talked to us about their experiences as students in the optomology field. We got to see some of the first year tools that are used and learned their purpose. It was fun and the best part is it grabbed my attention. I am now considering this field of study. I truly enjoyed myself, and i hope to continue to have experiences like this with my time here. THe speakers were very energetic, and proud of what they do and i wish tp be the same inspiration to young people like they were for me.

An Exploration For Your Taste Buds

YES

On this lovely day in November Science Corner decided to use our wonderful vegetables that we grew out on science corner for many different tasty treats. Over the course of our time spent together we have made Flamin' Hot Salsa, in which we used our corn, garlic, parsley and many other vegetables we grew in our garden. I also had the chance to prepare fried green tomatoes, a new experience for my taste buds as well as fried Zucchini. What an exciting first day of cooking i would say! We also made pickles and i cannot explain how exciting i am about seeing how they turned out! This week we are taking the time to focus on our carrots. We are going to prepare carrot cake, apple carrot muffins and Carrot pumpkin snack cake! WOW what a new adventure because i have never made any of those food choices. Science Corner is a great way to experience new foods that you may never get to try just sitting at home, while learning about how our vegetables grow and how to take care of them dealing with the weather and other effect of the environment.

THen next challenge wasto create a door bell and we had to create a rythym or melody that would be the sound are door bell made. the last activity was to make abedand an alarm. THen after the main three activities were completed we wereto putthem together in are dream house. The Pico challenge was fun and creative. Itis the best one... :)

picocrickets

Designing Teens
Today we did another activity with the pico crickets. We designed them to respond to loud sounds, and we tested are hand and foot reaction. First we mad ethe pico dance to a loud sound. After those three different activities me and my partner courtney worked on how well we reacted to a light, and a chirp that came from the pico cricket.

Musical Food PicoCrickets

Designing Teens
Today we worked with the picocrickets. We took a banana, pickle, and play-DOh, and tried to makedifferent musical notes wit hthem. You had to hook up the sound part of the pico cricket, and then use the aligator clips to connect the food items with the sound box. With the banana, when you peeled it the sound got lower, when you put the peel up, the sound got a higher pitch. the same sequence worked with the other items too.

Today in design it, we worked with the pico crickets. My partner was Kim, and we created a sound, made it move, and made a light come on. it was not challenging, but was something different. It wasn't challenging for me either, but it was fun working with different materials.
