 <title>We&#039;re Back At It Again...........Blogging For The YES Program</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Hello readers and comment makers of the Youth Exploring Science website. I am KiOntey and this is my third year in the YES Program, I have had several experiences such as working with children with Cerebral Palsy, children from under privileged communities, and many different teens from all over the St. Louis Metropolitan area. There have been many difficult paths along the way from being the youngest person in a component to having the lead a lesson in front of younger people that are ready to learn anything that you put in front of them. But in the last couple of months there have been plethora of people that I have met such as doctors, health advocates, and many more teens. I am looking forward to having a great year and learning more than I have ever in the last three years. So I want to say to all the new YES Teens that this experience is a wonderful one and take advantage of all the opportunities that are placed in front of you and enjoy them because there are many students that don&amp;#39;t have to same opportunities given to them.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;KiOntey &lt;/p&gt;</description>

 <title>New Teens Everywhere...........Yep It&#039;s Summer Time!!!!!</title>

 <description>Yes, it&amp;#39;s summer time again for the Youth Exploring Science teens. And with a new season comes new teens and there are many new teens all over the Science Center and the Taylor Buliding. Many of our new teens are fun, happy, excited, and full of energy. That&amp;#39;s what we need while we are taching many kids all over the St. Louis area. Personally I have an internship this summer and I&amp;#39;m not with the new teens :(. But this week I am working with the new teens and this experience has been just that an experience. They are full of energy and they are working very hard to learn how to teach just as well as the older teens.  <title>Water Tanks, Fishes and Water Guns?</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;This week we have done several things like work with the fish in the fish tank and worked with trying to figure out how to make a pump work and what inside it makes it work the way that it does. So first Frank, Josh, Robert, and myself took twenty five percent of the water out of the tank and refilled it back with tap water. And the reason that we took only twenty five percent of the water out was because if we took more than that out then the fish could most likely die because of the sudden change so we decided to change the water only once a month so the fish can get used to the changing of the water. Then after that I tested the level of the ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite levels in the water and so far the levels of nitrate and nitrite are very low at 0ppm and the ammonia levels are still pretty high at 0.25ppm. But we have to find a way to lower the level of ammonia in the water and raise the level of nitrate and nitrite in the water so the fish can survive for a long period of time. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Then after we got done experimenting with the fish we saw that the hand pumps that we use everyday are connected to the electric water pumps that we have in fish tanks. And the way that they are all connected is because they each have a piston that builds up the air pressure in for example a water gun so you can have a long shooting range from the water. And then we also learned that the way that the electric pump is different is because when it is plugged up and started then it runs on its own. But when we took these hand pumps apart we saw all to the parts of the pump that makes it go and work for anything that you want to work like a soap dispenser and a trigger spray. So go home and take apart anything that you can use that is a pump....but ask your parents before taking things apart or just completely breaking things.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

 <title>Recycling and Building Structures Tall And Wide........WoW!!!!!!</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Today in Yes-2-Tech we had so much fun I know its hard for you to believe when your not here but believe me it was fun. First we worked on the wind turbine structures, because we need something that can hold our turbine up and keep energy going into our greenhouse. Then after we came from break we learned that there are many ways to recycle and save our environment one plastic jug at a time. And we also learned that everyday things that we use such as milk jugs, plastic cups, and plastic bowls are just a few of the things that we can recycle and they can make up something that can be used in a different part of the country. I know that sounds like fun but the most fun part of the day was when we got to build another structure that went upward instead of sideways and the tallest structures were 84 inches and 77 inches tall. We had fun and learned that there are many different ways that we can have a structure stand on its own and new ways to find out the several different types of plastics that are recycled daily...so build a structure or recycle whatever you do just try to help us save our environment.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;KiOntey&lt;/p&gt;</description>

 <title>Well...Well....Well....Do You Know Your pH Level?</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Today in Yes-2-Tech we worked on what or pH levels were and all at the same time welcomed the new member to our group, Priscilla. She is one of the newest members of our group and we all welcomed her with open arms. Anyway we learned what the pH level is and what it does to everything in the ecosystem, and the pH level is the amount of acid in the water of a tank and other things. So we did this experiment that showed us how to make two different types of testers for the pH level and the first on we used was cabbage and hot water and it showed the color of the solution and how acidic it was. And then the other way that we tested the pH level was with using the pH strips that showed the color of how acidic or how basic the solution is. But even if you know or not the amount of acid in anything and effect everything around you......including you.....so remember to learn about everything around you.  <title>Cupric Sulfate and Nickel Sulfate......What in the World Is This?</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Today in The wonderful world of Yes-2-Tech we are learning how to take the copper from a penny and a nickel and switch them around. But the process is a long one...just kidding, anyway we had to first take our safety materials (you always want to be protected) then we had to get pennies and nickels. We had to take the copper on the penny and make it disappear. Now I know your trying to figure out how to do this, we first took some water and vinegar (vinegar to have a higher acid level in the water) and connected the wires needed to the alligator clips and then to the pennies and nickels. After we connected this together we then put two different chemicals in two glasses. In the first glass we put nickel sulfate into the glass with the water and the vinegar and then stirred up the solution until the water turned a light green color, then put the pennies and the nickel in the solution connected to a D battery. Then the second glass we mixed cupric sulfate into the glass and stirred it up until the solution turned a light blue color, then we put the nickels and penny in the solution. And after we did all of this we had to see the end results...and they were that the solution with just one penny turned the nickels to a copper color and the solution with the one nickel turned the pennies a silver color. So now all you have to do is figure out why this happens....so that means come to the Yes-2-Tech room and ask a teen and we ca figure this out together.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

 <title>Still Saving Energy and Now Working With Kids!!!!!!!</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;There was so much that we have done today. Like we worked on making motors that work without using electricity it took a minute to learn what we were doing but after awhile we figured that we need to examine all of what we need and then construct the experiment to make energy flow. Then after the break we were told that we are going to have to work with kids tomorrow now that we know we will be working with kids tomorrow we had to come up with experiments that we have to teach and when we go over to the main building we are going to teach the kids about energy and how electricity works through a wind turbine. So now we are just waiting until tomorrow so we can so these kids what to YES Teens are really made of.  <title>Is Yes-2-Tech Still Trying To Save Energy?.........Yes, They Are And Doing A Good Job At It!!!!!</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;There were many things that were accomplhished today in Yes-2-Tech. Like we first had to find out which type of car we would want in the future and how much everything would cost and how long would the car last but that was just the start of it. Then after we figured the prices of everything for a car that all led up to the fact that we are still building and making wind turbines for our domes. So we went on &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.instructables.com/id/A-Home-Power-Plant---Wind-Power-Generator-Revised/&quot;&gt;http://www.instructables.com/id/A-Home-Power-Plant---Wind-Power-Generator-Revised/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;to find out the different types of wind turbines that were all over the country that could be made and this is the one that I found the most well organized and has complete instructions on how to make the turbine. The name of this turbine is Home Power Plant and some other things that I found from this instructable was that the turbine had a average watts of 1000 and that the wind has to blow at least 20 MPH to reach this rate. Then I figured that the price of the supplies would be varied because of the different amounts that would needed to be supplied. But I personally think that with a few days of experimenting more then we would be able to do this and make our own instructable yet again. But then at the same time I think that we could try to make the turbine that we looked up a few weeks ago when we called an expert at building turbines and the idea that he has could also be a great impact on the production of a wind turbine from Yes-2-Tech.  <title>Yes-2-Tech Saving Energy And Meeting New People!!!!!!</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Today in Yes-2-Tech we have made new discoveries and new friends. First when we clocked in we noticed that we had some new friends named Light-Skinned, 2 Toned, Goldie, and Bunnie. Now I know that these names aren&amp;#39;t the most normal and thats because they are the names of the four fish in the room. And after we got done naming the fish we had to test the oxygen, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, and pH levels in the tank. At first we wondered why there was no nitrate or nitrite but the reason that there was neither one of the organic ions in the water because the level of the ammonia has to turn into each of the ions later on when the weeks past. But the reason that we were testing these levels is because we are going to grow Koi fish and we need to see what levels of the solutions so the fish can stay healthy and alive.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</description>
